About Linda Seifried

Linda Seifried Kayaker, hiker, camper, gardener, biologist, artist and photographer. Nature is what I photograph and paint, and I use my own photos as a basis for all of my digital paintings. My goal is to paint landscapes that are peaceful and restful, well composed and pleasing to the eye.

New York is my home state, and most of my photographs and paintings show the countryside, farmlands, mountains and lakes of the region. I grew up spending weeks in the Adirondack Mountains and around Lake George; these are still favorite destinations for me, and many of my finest pictures were inspired by the beauty of these areas [and other scenic destinations I have traveled to]. My photos have been published in National Park Service Brochures and by a calendar company, and have been shown in local exhibits.

Many people have questions about digital painting, such as: What is it and how is it done? A computer is always involved, of course, but beyond that, there is a great deal of variety of styles and "looks" in digital artwork. Some computer programs simply give the photo a "painted" look. The quality of these pictures depends on starting with a good photograph. In my case, I use a pressure-sensitive stylus and tablet together with digital software that allows me to 'paint over the top' of my photograph. The result is a very life-like picture, in many cases. In other cases, much of the original photo is hand-painted to look quite different from the original photo.

One advantage of digital paintings is that they can be sized exactly to fit various standard frame sizes; and they can include a border which shows when a mat is added, thereby giving a "double-matted" look. Often I produce several variations of a picture that allows you to get a variety of looks. Different Galleries contain these different styles and sizes. This web site allows you to try out various mat and frame combinations with any picture of any style, and I hope you will have fun trying out the different looks!

Thank you so much for visiting my artwork.
